Charlotte's Free Again!
November 20th was the day to cut off Charlotte's cast. You can see from the first picture this was a welcome occurance, she was ready to get that thing off! Olivia and Addison are in the doorway watching and making sure Clay baba is very careful. You can see how straight her leg is now! How exciting to see this once broken, curved leg straight! She was a bit subdued after the cast came off as she didn't realize how much support it gave her leg. We told her to remember the song that talks about how little ones belong to Him and that they are weak and He is strong. Explaining that right now her leg is weak but soon will be strong. You will have to imagine the motions of the song as pantomine is big way we communicate! Letting our arms go limp for weak and then showing our muscles for strong. She got it!

Beijing Bazaar

Beijing Bazaar
November 18th a group of 6 of us from Agape Family Life House and Bread of Life Bakery attended a bazaar in Beijing. We served many delicious goods from the bakery in addition to homemade beef and vegetarian chili, bratwurst and Italian sausage. It was a busy, busy, day and we needed all hands to make it work! Our lunch foods and baked goods were well received and we sold out of several items. Among the best selling items were pies for Thanksgiving!

Visit From Dulwich School Friends
November 17th, we had a visit from Maifa, our teacher friend from Dulwich, Beijing campus, along with her husband, Andy, and their son, Jack, who presented us with funds to pay for the pamidronate treatment. Maifa and her family and the Dulwich School have been a huge blessing to Agape since Maifa began spending time with us. They helped us this year during a time when we our available funds were low and they continue to bless and encourage us! We are grateful for our Dulwich friends!

Pamidronate Time Again

Pamidronate Time Again
November 13, 14 and 15 was pamidronate treatment time. Ten (10) children having treatment in one room is quite an amazing thing to see! There are very few tears, only a few sniffles from one of the 5 year olds. The Gu'an sisters are getting treatment with everyone too. A room full of IV's and movies for 4 hours is fun for almost everyone. Sleep claims the youngest by the time 4 hours is up. Potty breaks and lunch are handled like this happens every day, instead of about every 4 months. Treatments takes 3 days and 4 hours for the IV to be finished. The pamidronate is what adds density to their bones giving the children more stability in their everyday life and creating enough density for surgery to straighten the bone and add the rod to give added support. Another treatment down! Another 4 more months until some have surgery or have another treatment. Thanks for your thoughts for the children! Please be asking for homes for each one who can still be adopted!

BMW Visit
On Sunday November 11th we were invited to bring the kids to the local BMW Dealership for a party. . BMW supplied the vehicles to get us there and back, so the kids got to ride in some pretty cool cars! On arrival, Clay gave an introduction to Agape Family Life House. Then the children saw a clown, an angel, a hillbilly sang songs, they drew pictures and ate cookies. The children had fun looking at the display cars and seeing all the pictures and models of old BMW's. It was a fun time for everyone and people at BMW got to taste chocolate chip cookies from Bread of Life Bakery. Afterwards they sent us home with some supplies and a nice donation.

Charlotte Broke Her Leg

Charlotte broke her leg on October 23rd and subsequently had surgery on the 24th. She is doing well now but was in quite a bit of pain initially. She came home after 6 days and is continuing to do well. This picture is of her playing with the cast dust after getting the cast cut down for a bit of "wiggle" room. Please be sending Knee Mail for complete healing of her newly rodded tibia and femur. She was actually "excited" for surgery as it means her leg will now be straight!

Stacy is leaving AFLH

Stacy is leaving AFLH

After living at AFLH for almost a year, Stacy will be leaving to work in a job in Beijing.  She has gained valuable experience working in the Bread of Life Bakery while at AFLH.  Although we will miss her presence with us, she will not be far away and we expect she will visit us often.  We are always sad when our "kids" leave, but we are proud that they have matured to the place of self sufficiency while at AFLH.  We bless her and wish her all the best.  Thanks to all who have been a part of her support group while she has been with us.

We mistakenly posted previously that Cindy was leaving, but, that is not the case.  Sorry for the mis information.

First Snow Nov. 4th
The heat officially comes on November 15th but that doesn't stop the weather from cooling until then! We had our first snow on November 4th. Beautiful, huge flakes came down most of the day. Some trees came down and branches snapped with the weight of the wet snow on them. The children are healthy for now, please ask that they will stay healthy during this season of cold weather but not so warm homes! We are bundled up and doing ok for now!

Let's Go Fly A Kite

Our 5 youngest children, Joseph, Ruby, Charlotte, Addison and Olivia, "flying" a kite around the compound.  "Dragging" might be the better word!  By the time we got it untangled we decided to just let it fly between wheelchairs and wagons!

AFLH and AIDEBAO Hospital meet with Shriner's Hospital in Oak Park, IL

AFLH and AIDEBAO Hospital meet with Shriner's Hospital in Oak Park, IL

Last Friday, Keith Wyse and Hope Chen accompanied Dr. Sam Watt, Dr. Chen Yuan and Dr. Wu Guo Hua, Director of the new AiDeBao Hospital now under construction in LangFang, China to meet with Dr. Peter Smith, Dr. Gerald Harris and Administrator, Mark Niederpruem, of Shriner's Hospital to discuss a collaboration project between Shriner's and AiDeBao.  Hopefully, we can reach an arrangement whereby Shriner's will assist AiDeBao Hospital to upgrade the quality of care in the new hospital by sending doctors from Chicago to train the doctors in China on surgical techniques to help OI children and also set up a Gait Lab in the new hospital which will allow AiDeBao to study the movements of handicapped orphans so as to determine how to assist them to remedy the children's disabilities.

AiDeBao has recently begun construction of a brand new hospital 459 bed which will focus primarily on helping OI children.  We at AFLH are excited to be a part of the development process.  Dr. Wu Guo Hua, Director of AiDeBao Hospital presented a Crystal "Statue" of hands shaking as a token of future cooperation between the two hospitals.
